    A soft egg to crack?
    Coming off a 2018 ruined by shin problems, Derek Smith gradually built form in the VFL until he earned two senior games in rounds 16 and 17, largely recreating his stat line of somewhere under 20 disposals with efficiency in the high 70s. The historical knock on him was his lack of strength at the contest.
    Perhaps that is not such a bad knock to have for a half back flanker whose one wood is not supposed to be cracking in under the packs, but if Smith wants to jump over a long line of blokes waiting for precious few spots he may need to improve in that area. As it is, he may have to wait for injuries for another chance.
