Is Ablett worth the extra $76K???

this year there seem to be some obvious trends in the back line, alot of good choices for rookies in the midfield, and some variations in strategy for the forwards line.

The extra money that Ablett frees up seems to separate teams into those that have Ablett and those that dont.

Opinions?

Bartel is just as good, and a fair bit cheaper. save your money, geelong will go downhill this season.

He;s worth the Dough mate, (in sc) bartel's best year he got 2 50's. Abletts best year last year he got 81, 98, 91 as his LOWEST scores, the rest are tons. Highest 140 vs 125 Lock in Captain every week, he's not going to magically come out a worse player this year....It's Gary Ablett we're talking about here.

Although I'd consider Bartel or Selwood along with him.

Ablett is worth every penny. I can't see how the best player in the AFL will suddenly go downhill. I think you are a fool if you don't get him in your team.

i think you might be dreaming, while they probably peaked, they are still a huge threat this year and wont be going downhill as you say, they might start a decline but as we saw with the bombers in 2001 and brisbane in 2004 they could still easily make a grand final, and if your there you can win it!!

I agree Trav... and even if geelong aren't as dominant as they have been over the past couple of years, GAJ is a freak and ya dreaming if u think he wont tear shreds off his opponents again this year, week after week.

Yes in SC very much, in DT not as much but then again in comparison to prices of other players in DT he may be. I explained my view in more depth in the 2nd link that Cool9 gave.

complete rubbish mate, ablett CANNOT be matched for scoring, bartel always spends a bit fair of time floating around the backline when needed which affects his scores negatively. i wouldnt even consider bartel, it would be either ablett and mabye selwood as a last resort

gave into temptation last year & left him out at start, spent all year scrambling to get him back in,if he goes down cut your losses & trade but even if he misses 5 games throughout the year as hes prone to do hes still worth every penny.Hey with all the good rookie/first year mids at under 180 big ones this year theres no excuse not to have ablett
