The Brownlow Medal favourite sent a scare through the Cats camp yesterday when he looked to hurt his lower left leg in a training drill.

Ablett, who missed the Round 15 loss to the Brisbane Lions because of a calf injury, was forced to sit out some of the session at Skilled Stadium as he sought treatment on the problem spot.

He resumed training, but looked hampered by the complaint at times and was seen engaged in a lengthy discussion with club officials after the session.

Football manager Neil Balme said he could not comment on Ablett's fitness last night as he was absent from the club during yesterday's session, because of talks with the AFL in Melbourne.

Ablett, 25, is known to be very cautious with his injuries and is unlikely to be risked in the MCG blockbuster if it bothers him again at tomorrow's final training session, where he will be assessed.

read that, lucky I have a spud team, worried though

Generally discard whatever Geelong say about their players. It is almost always lied. If he is actually injured he could be out for as long as 3-4 if he is not its a ploy to annoy Hawthorn...

He might just be the wussiest player in the AFL.  O'Keefe, Judd, COX...all play through pain (or broken feet) and earn massive amounts of respect, the herald sun (melb) today has gary ablett "known to be very cautious with his injuries".  He's bloody annoying to have in my SC team, i just wish he would man up a bit.  He even wrote an article a few weeks/months ago about Judd and the superstar he is, saying how as an elite footballer you have to "play through injuries", now i for one think ablett is a player that misses the odd week or two with a niggle.  I read somewhere earlier in the week that Bomber Thompson says Ablett likes to play "100% and not have any niggles" so i think he must just sit in the medical rooms at Geelong, making himself unavailable for the odd week.

He last missed a game with a "Calf" injury.  1 week.  The same cloud he's under now (not sure if its the same leg).  If he had done his calf you have a Pavlich situation 3-4 weeks.  If you tweek it a tiny bit, players play on.  Ablett goes "owwwwwww" week off.

I like Ablett as a player when he's on, i do think he is good.  But far out, when he whinges about frees and keeps missing games, he just gets annoying.

Wouldn't you rather miss 1 game with a niggle than play and risk a LTI?
I'd say Geelong are in a position to take it easy at the moment.
I think he's just being cautious because finals are coming up. Why fk up and risk 3 weeks +, and potentially miss the finals?

Better safe than sorry in other words.

agree with the below its damn annoying for SC but seriously in Geelongs position
second gets the same as first, they are shoe in's for second they should be worrying about keeping people fresh and player management for a big september

no point getting to the GF and running out of legs eg: essendon 2001

list manage v important

Hell if he wants a week off I guess he can he is the best player in the comp

Difference is 2nd will most likely play Doggies, 1st will play probably Pies or Crows or Lions in Melbourne, I think there is a big difference between coming first and second I'd prefer to play Pies or Crows/Lions in Melb than the Dogs

how does he hope to win the brownlow with the amount of games he misses.... this is why cooney won last year and itll be probably why swan (or anyone else for that matter) will win it this year , and gablett will be crying agian. PLAY A FULL SEASON. sick of having half a mill worth of player out every 2nd week.

That is true actually.  I always say that if they are 50/50 and they play, only to further injure themselves!

Yes, Geelong are definitely allowed to be cautious.  I think they are burning from the round 17 clash that they just one in 08 and then now they are realising that finals is where they have to win.  So they are planning for that and really.  If you think long term...i'd rather play doggies in first week of finals and then not have to play them until grand final, than risk having them run you ragged the week before the grand final!

Geelong are going for the big prize.  Smart.  It's the only reason i'm so nervous on trading Chappy in!  Money is no issue, but i'd kill him if they rested him!

He left the track for a piss and all of a sudden its a huge injury concern. All players get rub downs too, absolutely blown out of proportion!
