Power calling: Round 8 review (Sunday)

by m0nty | May 17th, 2009 | Comments : [109] | Categories: Talking Points.
Paul Montgomery

Port’s Warren Tredrea was the star of the weekend with a mobile game that will get coaches talking.

AFL Rd 7 - Port Adelaide v KangaroosThe game at Footy Park was arguably the best of the round, with rain not dampening the attacking play from both sides. Tredrea got away early on Kelvin Moore and it was only when Joel Bowden was shifted onto him that Tredders slowed down. Down the other end, Robin Nahas had three goals at quarter time to keep the Tigers in the game. The two least accountable, most overpossessing teams in the AFL were treating the greasy conditions with contempt and delivering some pretty good fantasy scores.

A couple of players outperformed expectations, with Mark Coughlan scoring at an elite level in Dream Team if not Super Coach with 57% efficiency from his 28 disposals, while Travis Boak had a similar ratio with 60% efficiency from his 25 possessions including five clangers.

Andrew Raines was a disappointment to those coaches who had held onto him for all this time, having to play a defensive role on Brett Ebert who carved him up by running up the ground and racking up score assists. Similarly, Nathan Krakouer stamped his departure papers for thousands of fantasy teams with a por return of only 12 possessions, leaving his breakevens at unsustainable levels.

Kane Cornes pulled a Richo by delivering a terrible score and getting reinjured, though the knock to his shoulder wasn’;t as bad as Richo’s hammy tear. He spent much of the game getting cold standing next to Brett Deledio on a half forward flank. His owners have a big dilemma this week.

At the G, the game went much the same way as last week’s Collingwood match, with the Pies breaking even in the midfield with inside 50s, but their forward line being so completely useless that they could barely muster any kind of score by half time. At the other end, Bret Ratten told Brendan Fevola to take Simon Prestigiacomo up the ground and leave Jarrad Waite one on one with Nick Maxwell in the goal square, which worked a treat. The same structure with differing opponents persisted for the rest of the game, leaving Fev goal-less but enjoying himself by high fiving team mates after their goals.

Bryce Gibbs beat Dane Swan, while Chris Judd shaded his battle with Scott Pendlebury - maintaining the trend of coaches deciding to try to exploit Judd on the counter-attack instead of tagging him.

Over at Docklands, St Kilda got the jump but after quarter time Essendon remembered how they played against Hawthorn and held their own for the rest of the match, without ever really threatening to hit the lead. As happened in a number of games this weekend, a head to head match up produced high fantasy scores from both players, in this case being Lenny Hayes versus Jobe Watson. Watson had more touches (39 to 33) but also had more clangers (6 to 2) and trailed badly in efficiency (62% to 82%), which tells you why Hayes got the accolades.

Nick Dal Santo and Brent Stanton suffered under their tags, from Heath Hocking and Clinton Jones respectively. The Saint half backs weren’t as productive due to the huge amount of pressure both forward lines were putting on, though this same dynamic led the Bomber defence to overpossess so players like Tayte Pears and Henry Slattery got big numbers.

Finally, Patrick Ryder owners must be concerned by images late in the game of the kid getting his hamstrings worked over on the boundary line. Ryder got very few rotations with Tom Bellchambers in his battle against the twin towers of Steven King and Michael Gardiner, and it is worrying that Matthew Knights might be working the boy into the ground.

Great wrap ups monty! just one thing, its andrew raines, not daniel

Smit Says: 10:09 pm, May 17th, 2009

McGlynn looks great value as a Fwd in SC, straight swap for Taylor Walker or Mitch Brown

John Says: 10:49 pm, May 17th, 2009

Bombers did threaten for the lead mate. Few out of character missed from Lloyd and some terrible umpiring decisions. Cracks appearing down their at Moorabbin. Glad I did Raines for Grimes.

You also forgot to mention the successful return of the favorite son at fanfooty.com.au
Kyle Cheney! 93! I’ll take that any from a player I got at under 100,000

snagadelic Says: 11:27 pm, May 17th, 2009

wasn’t judd easily the best man on the ground?
or did he shade pendlebury? not sure but im glad ive got a hund on him to wiN charlie at 7.5. EASILY THE BEST PLAYER IN THE COMP IMO.

Hoops Says: 11:30 pm, May 17th, 2009

Good week for me this week - 1915 with 2 donuts. (Ziebell and Higgens) Coughlan has proven to be a great pickup and McPhee finally had a respectable week. Glad Swan and Goodwin both played, although it was quite noticeable Swannie was a touch ginger.

Trade options for me this week (assuming Houlihan is missing again are:

Houlihan Petterd
> Thornton Grimes, or
> Goddard Broughton

I’m leaning towards the first option - thoughts?

Carl Says: 12:13 am, May 18th, 2009

Cracks appearing at moorabbin?

8-0, 195%….looks ‘delicious’ mate.

m0nty Says: 1:48 am, May 18th, 2009

It’s past midnight on Monday morning and I’ve written four review blogs yet there’s only 44 comments on them in total. Lift your game commenters, I need to know you’re reading them or I won’t feel like they’re necessary in future.

LIIIIFFFT ;)

astrofrankie Says: 4:22 am, May 18th, 2009

fair call monty.
krakouer has played his last game for me, will trade for pavlich, johnson or maybe ROK. not sold on jb yet. Am cashing in s.hill to raise funds (and put some aside for gary in 2-3 weeks) fevola is hurting me, and other sc’s, but i guess we knew to expect this with fev and i don’t think it is worth trading him out. also, tippett, i’m not sure of his keeper status. is he good enough to be my 2nd ruck (with cox) all year? he keeps making a case for himself but kosi being so cheap and knowing how dangerous he can be when up and firing, its tempting to swap him in and pocket 50K odd.
@ john - i can’t remember when bombers threatenend for the lead. i guess they threatenend to get closer than 4 goals though. they continually pounded at the saints and would have smashed nearly any other team, geelong included, but stkilda held up when maybe cracks should’ve been appearing. both sides will take positives from the game, bombers probably more. the saints are most definitely the real deal this year, and it will be interesting to see how they manage to not win the flag this time around, which is inevitable. go pies.

JOSH Says: 8:26 am, May 18th, 2009

so ryder is injured houlihan gone
trade for grimes.
krakour doing nothing.

JOSH Says: 8:27 am, May 18th, 2009

i think i’ll go with krakour for s.johnson

JOSH Says: 8:35 am, May 18th, 2009

nooooooooooo houston lost to lal 89-70

Pevva Says: 9:21 am, May 18th, 2009

lifted.

Good job monty

Raf Says: 9:34 am, May 18th, 2009

Nice to see the increase in content, Monty!

Looks like a big week to cash in- guys like Hill, Beams, Mitch Brown, Krakouer all eminently cashable now.

Not a lot of underpriced guns, though. Personally, I’m holding off on upgrades for a couple of weeks and waiting for Salopek and Didak to return and drop in price, and to see what happens with K Cornes.

Spot the Dog Says: 9:36 am, May 18th, 2009

Nice wrap monty…
Meh. An alright week. 1845 with Higgs, Zieb and Chappy, and only M.Brown as an emergency (WCE Brown, not either of the others). Oh, and Petrenko on the field, so that’s got to be worth some pity.

This weeks trades look like Petrenko to Grimes… maybe Garry Moss to Montagna or NDS. Opinions?

Sammy H Says: 9:41 am, May 18th, 2009

Snagadelic is a fool. Ablett is out for two weeks and you’re already talking up Judd? Moron.

And Monty, I was on Fanfooty all week and I didn’t know you were doing them. Will check up this coming weekend…

Frank Says: 9:51 am, May 18th, 2009

Chapman killed me! I lost my league game cos of him - and when I heard the word “hammy” - i cringed! Word is that he’ll play along with Ziebell, Higg and Ablett. Welcome back to the world of 2400’s.

Done 11 trades but S. Hill to Grimes this week is a must to upgrade Krak who is starting to Krak. Love ya work Monty.

Daics1990 Says: 9:52 am, May 18th, 2009

Was going to trade N Krakouer last week for S Johnson but as Higgins and Ziebell were both out didn’t want to take 2 donuts so traded W Thompson for Johnson instead. Krakouer only 40 points a loss of another 25k, should have offloaded him last week. Now I need to dump him but for who? Already have Riewoldt, Deledio, N Brown, S Higgins, M Pavlich, S Johnson and J Ziebell. Who else can I put in for Krakouer? Is there some rookie that I am forgetting about? Not convinced with J Brown or ROK yet and Chapman too expensive. Any advice?

Heater Says: 9:54 am, May 18th, 2009

Hill to Grimes and Krak to…. not sure yet. See who gets picked I suppose! That will leave me with 12 trades.

Rob Says: 9:55 am, May 18th, 2009

Come on Monty, ur cracki up at us for not commentin in ur blogs, how about spreadin them out instead of pumpin out 4 blogs at a time then not producin anythin for nearly a week. seriously think about it

listingbadly Says: 10:00 am, May 18th, 2009

Diacs1990
“Is there some rookie that I am forgetting about? Not convinced with J Brown or ROK yet and Chapman too expensive. Any advice?”

How about Sidebottom as a forward rookie?

Daics1990 Says: 10:00 am, May 18th, 2009

Oh and great work by the way Monty. I was a dream team novice until I found this fantastic website a couple of years back. Have won the last three work comps thanks to your advice along with advice from the ‘commenters’. Unfortunately now more people from my comp have found your website so the dream team average has significantly improved. Makes 4 in a row a real challenge.

steven Says: 10:18 am, May 18th, 2009

petrenko to Grimes this week and m. Brown (WCE)to sidebottom for some big cash cows ! Get myself some money hang onto my 11 remaining trades and lets the points roll in !

Daics1990 Says: 10:33 am, May 18th, 2009

Thanks listingbadly. He seems a good player Sidebottom. Should keep his place I hope. There are a lot worse at Collingwood at the moment but they do have Didak and Medhurst to come back. I might pick up Sidebottom and wait for either Chapman to get back to a reasonable price or for Didak to return and come down a little.

Charlie Says: 11:16 am, May 18th, 2009

The question to ask with Krakouer type situations is not will his price fall (it will for a couple more weeks), but ‘will he keep playing for another 6-8 weeks and average 70-80′?

If you think the latter, then I’d suggest holding on. If you trade EVERY rook or Cow as soon as they hit their first peak, you’ll end up using 14 trades in the first 10 weeks…think about it.

The trick is to pick 4-5 of them you think WILL keep playing ok, ride out the first price trough, then trade them out on the next high (rounds 12-17). This way (by keeping 4-5) you at least have a proven player acting as bench backup, rather than new rooks, AND have the trade up you sleeve for injuries.

trader Says: 11:35 am, May 18th, 2009

I think Krack to ROK is a winner. He looked good in the last couple of weeks as was gun during the middle of last years season.

S Hill to P Burgoyne. He is fit agian and showed on the weekend he can break a forward tag.

Does anyone know anything about L Anthony. How long do we have to wait?

Do you think Andy Otten (Adel) has peaked?

peppers Says: 11:48 am, May 18th, 2009

Is krakouer scoring lower now that the burgoynes are back?

reconfig Says: 11:57 am, May 18th, 2009

the first low scoring game for krak was because he got a tagging role in the defence, i think he generally plays the loose man… the second game he may have been affected by the rain. Could be wrong but, i didnt watch either game, its just what i gathered from what ive read

Roger Says: 12:06 pm, May 18th, 2009

How bout krak for gia. looking like he is lifting

Dave Says: 12:53 pm, May 18th, 2009

Do people think Kornes is gonna be out this week…???

I really dont want to trade him because hes such a great player, but dont want a lagging injury to spoil his scores…

trader Says: 1:18 pm, May 18th, 2009

give Gia 1 more week i think. The Cats will smash them on friday. Going to use the same theory for Cooney i reckon

Pirece Brosnan Says: 2:02 pm, May 18th, 2009

Nice wrap monty….

I noticed in my leagues this week that some of the early bolters are now coming back to the pack. I think this year would have forced a lot of early trades, and keeping them now as much as possible and then really flying past people in the last 5-6 rounds will be the way to go this year. Just have to stay out of trouble for the next 4-5 weeks!

Please help me in campainging to save the environment!

Pierce..

Churto Says: 3:05 pm, May 18th, 2009

Good stuff Mont Dog,

I have been depleted by injury and omission the last few weeks which has seen my dt ranking drop from the top 1000 to 8000….

cmon ablet, chapman, lucas, higgins, skipworth and houlihan.

adz Says: 3:18 pm, May 18th, 2009

any thoughs on who would be the best to get rid of cheers

The3rd Says: 3:28 pm, May 18th, 2009

What are people doing with Raines?
I’m furious ive held onto him for so long and he pulls out an SC of 37.
I’ll probably give him a few more chances but.. !!!

He got smashed in his tagging attempts on Ebert. If he gets dropped i’ll go insane

Carlton Crew Says: 3:35 pm, May 18th, 2009

guys i need some advice.. ok i want to get grimesy but i also want to get sherman now im lokcing in 1 trade which is taylor walker for mcglyn now should i take sherman for rance or downgrade rance for grimes this week?

Brendan Fevola Says: 3:55 pm, May 18th, 2009

Hi my names spud. Showers and Spuds

Chuck Norris Says: 4:15 pm, May 18th, 2009

SC SC SC SC

The main problems my team faces, their names are :

Krakour
Houlihan
Spitwoth

I reckon that Ziebell is OK for a return against Freo and Higgins should return next as well, unless Higgo is gettin the beginnings of OP. Thats a scary prospect. With 13 trades in hand and players falling like rain, I need to priortise. I was leading all ladders before R8 now I’m leading in 1 and 2nd in the other two, whilst the league people around me have been trading their asses off recently.

Not this little black duck…..

Very tempting to piss Hot Lips out last week, but held off in the name of August trades in hand. Having no cover down back long term is a real risk and I just wish that one doesn’t raise it’s ugly head, but it just might as soon as this week or my oh-so-feeble Suban may lose favour with the coach.

And with all this Grimes talk - I can also picture seeing two runners help him off the ground with ANOTHER debilitating injury. Why everyone’s got a purple one for Sherman - I have no idea. He’s like Brennan, could easily give you a 145 but then 30’s and 50’s after that, trade him in at your peril.

Jacko Says: 5:00 pm, May 18th, 2009

i need some help, and have 1 of these trades in mind
1. s.hill>Grimes
2. Petrenko>Grimes
not sure what to do because petrenko is crap want to get rid of him but will cost 40k. Hill will make cash but looks like the one more likely to keep his spot in his side. not sure what to do and help would be appreciated. Am leaning towards hill because atm petrenko is my 8th def.

Jacko Says: 5:24 pm, May 18th, 2009

also wen do people rekon houlihan will be back?

Chuck Norris Says: 5:27 pm, May 18th, 2009

You’re crazy to trade Hill for the Grimey one - apart from the fact that Grimes is an injury risk, why bother? Trades are valuable in case you didnt know - it’s like saying “Why not trade Goddard for Waite?” - why would you bother.

Chuck Norris Says: 5:29 pm, May 18th, 2009

But yaeh, Petrenko is a spudlet (junior spud)

poobags Says: 5:31 pm, May 18th, 2009

def spudrenko to grimes.

Chuck Norris Says: 5:36 pm, May 18th, 2009

Ha Raines - I sidekicked him out of the side months ago - spud

Jacko Says: 5:50 pm, May 18th, 2009

thanking people for convincing me to drop a cold soft useless spud.

WormBurner Says: 6:34 pm, May 18th, 2009

Have ya thought about Broughton (Freo) (Backline) Handy scores for his 2 games

steve Says: 6:40 pm, May 18th, 2009

Petrenko is a waste !!!!! Negative points will be his legacy in Dream Team the way he is travelling

Carlton Crew Says: 7:02 pm, May 18th, 2009

broughton ftw! persisted with him since round 1 should be getting good scores all year if he stays in the side! now cmon guys should i jump on the mcglynn bandwagon? and should i give simmo another week or trade this week for big kruezerrr

Smit Says: 7:10 pm, May 18th, 2009

Grimes for Hill is a no brainer. Hill is hot or cold at best.

Does anyone know how Skipworth is travelling, is he due back this week / playing Magoos ?????

Toolavich Says: 7:12 pm, May 18th, 2009

Great work m0nty!

Duly read and Lifted!

I have no other comments, still in shock from having 4 doughnuts in this weeks score….had to take the pain.

Higgins, Didak, Ziebell and Chappy all back this week…PLEASE!

Al Says: 7:17 pm, May 18th, 2009

Much appreciated Monty.

I can’t believe I held on to Raines for that score. No point trading him now though.

Definitely going Petrenko to Grimes this week.

Disco (UK) Says: 7:19 pm, May 18th, 2009

Wow, Fevola playing a team role, that would be a first!

jb Says: 7:43 pm, May 18th, 2009

A first yes, good for fantasy, NO.
He’s a risky enough player as it is without burdening him with being a ‘team’ player. sheesh bring back the selfish Fev!

Joel Says: 9:28 pm, May 18th, 2009

Good read, keep it up Monty

John Says: 9:44 pm, May 18th, 2009

Does anyone else think this photo of Tredrea makes him look like Will Ferrell?

PIESBOY Says: 11:06 pm, May 18th, 2009

If anyone wants a laugh, go back and read m0nty’s bets of the week. I really hope you didn’t put your money where your mouth is. Stick to the fantasy based write-ups I reckon m0nty

FYI - by far and away, the bet of the week this week was Hawthorn @$1.95 - money for jam that was

Mr Sherminator Says: 11:32 pm, May 18th, 2009

I killed ‘em! Buy me quick, trade me out in 2 weeks.

Mr poobags is right, def spudrenko to grimes.

Poogags, have you got a great haircut? You deserve one, I can help with an A1 Greek chopper.

Grimes goes there, so should you - you know it makes sense!

W Tredrea Says: 11:34 pm, May 18th, 2009

you owe me for that phone call. Great picture of me but,

Jose O(liver) Shea Says: 12:12 am, May 19th, 2009

well done monty, keep up the good work.

just interested to put it to the floor…who would people offload for steele sidebottom, from the following players based on their ability to make more money, make a nice profit already, play more games, or depreciate etc.

mitch brown
dayne beams
dava zaharakis
jeff garlett
jack ziebell
dan rich
??????

jb Says: 12:16 am, May 19th, 2009

yeah just like backing Carlton the week before was money for jam too eh.

PIESBOY Says: 1:02 am, May 19th, 2009

haha JB - I have no idea how you know that…..what about Carlton to beat Richmond round 1 - that was a pretty solid collect (in hindsight its hard to believe how fancied Richmond were in the lead up to the season).

I really should have my own segment on here for bets of the week

NOTAPIESBOY Says: 1:32 am, May 19th, 2009

@PIESBOY
You could easily do a better job than the w**nkers who are tellin m0nty what to post.

Andy Says: 11:40 am, May 19th, 2009

Tredrea is easily one of the best forwards in the comp at the moment, (step aside Buddy Franklin). treddas is free from the power’s captain curse and is gettin back to top form

Andy Says: 11:54 am, May 19th, 2009

that phone call treddas is makin is to monty payin him out bout his top 3 finish for the tigers bahahaha

Heated Says: 11:56 am, May 19th, 2009

he would definetely be up there with some of the greatest centre half forwards of all time, no doubt, he has proven himself over his long career. and that he still does it now shows what kind of a character he really is. i think over the past couple of injury riddled years people have forgotten how dominant this guy can be, and im a crows supporter!

Heated Says: 12:00 pm, May 19th, 2009

haha tigers top 3, more like top 1 ranking in coaches sacked this year

Frank Says: 12:30 pm, May 19th, 2009

Hill to Grimes will be a popular trade this week and its a nice reward to those who have held onto him. @ChuckNorris - who wouldnt you want to bank 179k when Grimes can score into the 70’s and 80’s consistently like Hill hasn’t done. You can get Broughton as well (i already have him) if you are concerned about scoring - after all these guys will be your 7th and 8th backs. Hill is worth too much to be nestled in that position anyway - so upgrade the skinny turd!

179k plus the 79k in the bank i already have will allow me to upgrade Ziebell to Pavlich - giving me a forward line of Chappy, Lids, StevieJ, Pavlova, Higgins, Krak & Steele with Tex and M. Brown on the pine. That should get me back inside the top 500!!

Chuck Norris Says: 12:30 pm, May 19th, 2009

Treds got them to a GF - not many forwards going around right now apart from JB can say that

Masterchef (respect your ingredients) Guy Says: 1:02 pm, May 19th, 2009

Here’s my question yeah?

Trade for sidebottom or mcGlynn, yeah?

sidey is cheaper and could make great cash, yeah, but might lose his spot pretty quick when other pies get uninjured, yeah?

mcglynn is scoring like a keeper and is on the bubble, yeah, and will be a great buy if he can maintain it, yeah? But, yeah, will he be able to, yeah?

Got 12 trades left in DT… What do you think yeah?

Chuck Norris Says: 2:13 pm, May 19th, 2009

@Masterchef - cannot see Sidey getting pushed before Corrie, Beams or Reid. And Leigh Browns AFL career would surely be virtually over.

So there’s 4 spots.

Wood will step aside for Fraser. Sure Didak and the underwhelming Travis Cloake will get the nod as soon as they’re right (now down to two spots), but Thomas and Rocca mmm. I guess Rocca will displace L Brown, but that leaves Corrie and Beams struggling. And Malthouse has a big purple one for Sidey. I reckon Corrie or Beams will be the fall guys. But there’s always injury’s a concern.

And about Medhurst, as far as I’m concerned -he’s a spent force. He will be there to replace an injured Didak, Sidey or Davis. A bit of a shame because he was sensational last year, but with Collingwood languishing and a real upside to putting the kids forward - this is where I see where he’s at. If the Pies were 5 - 3 right now, he’d be a lock every game. But they’re not.

And Daisy is just a tease - a total showpony. He’s needs to look at Montagna - how a total punce can get 35 touches and replicate that.

Chuck Norris Says: 2:32 pm, May 19th, 2009

@Frank - I reckon Hill will be back to high double figures (SC) or maybe even break the ton this week. My side North doesn’t really have a good match up to him. Dont forget he’s scored 341 pts in the last 4 rounds. I didn’t watch the Friday night game, but the Hawks did a job on him and they will probably do the same job on Grimey this weekend. I would bet London to a brick that Grimes get’s outscored by Hill and then Grimes will play the saints the following weekend so Grimes aint no takeover target yet. Grimes will get a big test in the next fornight - and if he’s lineball with Hill, you’ve wasted a trade. If you had 18 trades left then do it, but if you’re like everyone else on 12 to 15, hold off and let the humanoids in your league trade their way into finals trouble. The seasons not even half over. 13 games to go if you go all the way - how valuable will 4 or 5 trades be in August???

Sammy H Says: 2:39 pm, May 19th, 2009

Chuck Norris

Not that I’m disrespecting the great man, but J Brown didn’t get them to one of those GFs. I’m pretty sure Lynch, Voss, Aker, Black and Leppitsch can take the credit for that.

Just saying…

And Frank, get rid of KrakWhore this week before he haemorrhages $$$ everywhere. He’s playing the graveyard with a BE of 138. He’s done.

Chuck Norris Says: 2:43 pm, May 19th, 2009

Sammy H -good point and I’m left with the struggling Krak but just dont have the room - I’m in the top 4 of all my leagues so I might take a few losses to retain trades when I’ll need them between R14 and the finals

Frank Says: 3:03 pm, May 19th, 2009

@Chuck Norris. the theory is to gain 179k by ridding of Hill and using Broughton and or Grimes as my 7th back for the rest of the season!

I’m sure everyone would love to upgrade a struggling player such as Krak, Taylor Walker or Mitch Brown to ROK, Franklin or Jono Brown.

Makes sense to me Chucky!

Chuck Norris Says: 4:17 pm, May 19th, 2009

@Frank - whats a trade worth???

how is coughlan going ???

Masterchef (respect your ingredients) Guy Says: 6:22 pm, May 19th, 2009

Thanks Chuck… not sure who’ll be pushed out when injuries abate for the pies yeah? But I wonder about Malthouse’s hard-on for sidey when he bought a gug like barham in before him… he was at least 3rd in line to get into the team yeah? Will he be first out? Having said that he played pretty well in his two games yeah?

I just traded Daisy out cos he was giving me the shits, but he does have his own crap ad… can’t see him being out of the side too long yeah?

So… others… Sidey or McGlynn…. yeah?

What do people think of Newman? Approx 80 point average without much variation week in week out. Good value for $310k???

Frank Says: 9:14 am, May 20th, 2009

@Chuck - for me - a trade is worth:

Krak to Roo OR
Mitch Brown to JB.

‘Nough said.

Nick Says: 1:29 pm, May 20th, 2009

I’m considering keeping Mitch Brown on as a Darren Glass style dead end bench warmer, covering my forwards as opposed to trading him out for less than $100,000 to a new player with potentially less job security. He’s been looking like a pretty important key position player for the Eagles so far, I rate his job security. (Famous last words.)

My trades this week are, as long as no bad news comes up, S. Hill to Giblee and N. Krakouer to S. Johnson, leaving $54,000 left over.

I wonder though, would it be better to throw that money at Gilbee and look for a player priced around $392,500 or hold the extra cash and use it to suppliment my Mitch Robinson/Adam Cockie/ Ben Warren/ Nick Suban cash fund?

My gut feeling is to spend more money in the midfield, moving that extra 50k onto D. Rich with my downgrade money and pick up a real premium instead of just a keeper for a rookie.

turtle Says: 3:08 pm, May 20th, 2009

boys, all i hear you talk about is trades… has anyone thought of not trading this week, and roll with the punches… the loss u had in round 6, could win u a premiership in your league… everyone is panicking, and getting loose. grimes will break in a few weeks anyway. good luck.

respect your ingerdients yeah! Says: 4:35 pm, May 20th, 2009

i need houlihan to play this week with milburn and bock out. Got a feeling than suban may be dropped also for headland this wk.

“Gary’s 100 per cent right” - AFL.com
Starting to think Ablett over Cox as captain considering S.O.G will be under a roof and Cox might be in the rain.

Anyway, I’m in a bit of a pickle..

My forward line is Pavlich, Deledio, Franklin, Gian, Higgins, krak, Warren (M.Brown, Hogan) with 42k in the kitty.

I’m doing Hill -> Grimes as trade 1.

And either:
1. Krakouer -> O’Keefe
2. Krakouer -> Sidebottom
3. M.Brown -> Sidebottom

I’m currently leaning towards #1 but.. thoughts?

I am a spud
my price will go down with a Thud
I get drunk like Elma Flood

Charlie Says: 5:44 pm, May 20th, 2009

Sam - it really depends on the overall strategy.

Think forward a few weeks and trades. Do you need cash? Then #2.

#1. Is ROK really going to be a gun-keeper this year or are you just grabbing the best available for the sake of it…maybe. Will there be better players at decent prices later in the year? Probably.

#3 just seems sideways for no real benefit. Brown looks a nice #9 prospect. Games and 50av.

tom Says: 5:54 pm, May 20th, 2009

rains to grimes
or hill to grimes?

Sam Says: 5:57 pm, May 20th, 2009

Yeah thanks Charlie.

I’ve got my eyes firmly fixed on Didak once he gets back and starts hitting some form. Riewoldt is a must so i will bring him in soon as well. Krakouer -> Sidebottom it is!

Charlie Says: 5:58 pm, May 20th, 2009

Sam - just re-read your message. Your forward line is:

Pavlich, Deledio, Franklin, Gian, Higgins, krak, Warren (M.Brown, Hogan).

I’m not sure I would trade Krak. Ignore his short-term price fall for a moment…will he continue to get games? Probably.

But adding Sidebottom to Warren and Hogan is really asking for donuts isn’t it? Along with M Brown, that’s too many rooks going into round 10.

Again it comes back to the overall strategy, but I don’t really like the the idea of bringing Sidey into that fwd line, and I don’t really think ROK has the upside this year.

Whatever you do, if the ONLY reason you end up trading is to avoid Krak’s short-term price fall, then don’t trade. Wait for his rolling average to rid the two bad scores, all going well he climbs back to $300,000, then maybe trade to Didak or someone…?

dylan Says: 6:16 pm, May 20th, 2009

(Just posted on Bigfooty but would like to see what you guys think)
I’m looking at getting Grimes in for Hill or Suban. Should i do this or not? got 13 trades left and 19k.

Team looks like

Backs: Fisher,Goddard, C.Cornes, Drummond, Adcock, Hill, Broughton EMG Cheney and Suban

Mids:Gibbs,J.Selwood ,Kornes, S.Tuck,Rich,Otten EMG Danger and Robinson

Rucks: Cox,Tippett EMG Spencer, Jacobs

Forwards: S.Johnson, Deledio, N.Riewoldt, Pavlich, L.Davis,Higgins,Didak EMG M.Brown and Warren

The ones with underlines are the 1s i plan to upgrade out of my starting 22.

Would like to maybe get Cooney or Cross but Rich and Otten still have a bit more to make still.

Not sure if i should be downgrading Brown to Sidebottom or maybe Danger to Davenport or sidebottom or continue to wait but Danger does not seem to be making any more money now and i could use the money next week if i was to downgrade Brown.

I think my Rucks can wait because i dont really trust many rucks to upgrade Tippett to.

Not much to downgrade in the backline and i don’t have much in the bank so i thought Grimes could be a keeper. Then Maybe downgrade 1 of my mids or backs then get mackie for suban/hill soon.

What do you guys think?

Disco (UK) Says: 6:57 pm, May 20th, 2009

@Nick - I’m with you on Brown.

@Sam - I wouldn’t get Sideass, you don’t need another rookie.

incog Says: 7:35 pm, May 20th, 2009

Krack could yet be an absolute gem as your number 7 forward depending on injuries.

I note the volt is on the slide this week, has a b/e of 147 in sc, big ask, could drop another 30k after dropping 18k last week, you gonna trade him as well.

Krack is healthy, playing, can score big, and if he finishes the year out with an average of 75 or so, not bad for a 200 odd k investment.

Its round 9 is it not, not even half way there yet. Imagine your side picking up 3 long term injuries in the next 3 weeks..still wanna trade krack?

incog Says: 7:40 pm, May 20th, 2009

some of you guys were moaning about donuts last week or the week before, and you want to trade a 200k(sc) player out cause his last 2 scores sucked, so what if he drops to 300k(sc)
couple of decent games and he back up around 350k or so pretty quick. Who jumped off hill when he pulled 20 odd 4 or 5 weeks ago, they are rookies or 2nd year players, they will have shockers, thats just part of being a rookie guys..

turtle Says: 9:07 pm, May 20th, 2009

why doesn’t anyone else bar me have JOEL BOWDEN. he’s the sort of guy who can win me DT matches, coz everyone’s backs are very similar. he was my 1st player picked this year - he’s had 2 shockers, but still average 100. i love him… JOEL BOWDEN 4 P.M.

turtle Says: 9:10 pm, May 20th, 2009

oh joel, another mark/kick.. oh back to joel again.. hee hee.. hate it when wallace plays him up forward - he’s a loose checking, free-roaming defender terry u idiot, let him be free. wish his brother patrick as still there. now that was fun having both the boys.

bluebaggas Says: 9:20 pm, May 20th, 2009

if you want more comments then just do one post not 4 monty

Tim Says: 10:57 pm, May 20th, 2009

@ Turtle

The reason many don’t have Bowden is because we understand the difference between Football and DT. Rather than side on a computer and watch DT scores update every 30 seconds, we go and watch an actual game. And we understand that 100 DT points might mean nothing in a game of real footy.

And so we understand that Bowden is going to see a lot of Coburg time very, very soon.

Masterchef (respect your ingredients) Guy Says: 10:58 pm, May 20th, 2009

Bowden might get axed again if the tigers start tanking… or “give up on the season and play the kids” depending on which you prefer… Still he’s doing the job, good onya for pickin him… (yeah)

bigmac Says: 11:58 pm, May 20th, 2009

@ turtle

sounds to me you know a lot about the habits of DT’s and SC’s.

bowden will play for richmond long after many others are dropped

Hooligan Says: 12:57 am, May 21st, 2009

@ Brendan Fevola - just stop makin’ me come drinkin’ wit’ yuz, pls.

Disco (UK) Says: 1:20 am, May 21st, 2009

@Tim - 100 points means alot in DT, and DT is the reason I have any interest in Bowden.

@turtle - Many people didn’t pick Bowden because of his flakey 2008, massive uncertainty of his role and if he’ll be picked at all. He looks like a great pick, so far. If he gets dropped permanently for youth then you can trade him for whoever you like. Your courage is paying off, but save a trade for him incase Wallace panics or the possible new coach is anti-DT.

u mad? Says: 11:44 am, May 21st, 2009

is anyone thinking of bringing both jack grimes and sidebottom this round?

Dicko Says: 2:31 pm, May 21st, 2009

Took Grimes for Houlihan last week. Can’t make my mind up whether to grab Sidebottam for Krak this week. Might do it in SC but hold on to my trade in DT.
