JB Says: 5:22 pm, March 25th, 2009

I am guessing Yarran is still sore. Is he likely to be in round 2?

Chad Says: 5:25 pm, March 25th, 2009

why is Walker the big news?

Chad Says: 5:25 pm, March 25th, 2009

going to be interesting when carazzo and nick stevens come back.

james Says: 5:30 pm, March 25th, 2009

How long do you think the browne experiment will last??? Hes very skinny young ruckmen.. Doubt he’ll will play heaps this year.

Yakuza Says: 5:31 pm, March 25th, 2009

JB, Yarran is apparently not fit enough yet.
read that in some article on afl.com i think.

Chad Says: 5:32 pm, March 25th, 2009

said yarren will play first few rounds in VFL.

DC Says: 5:32 pm, March 25th, 2009

Browne only really has to do better than Graham at the moment with Pattison injured.

Josh Says: 5:33 pm, March 25th, 2009

no angus graham?

marcus Says: 5:34 pm, March 25th, 2009

what do people think would be a better choice for bench forwards: Garlett or Hogan?

M4cka Says: 5:35 pm, March 25th, 2009

mmm thought hampson would play over jacobs, ah well saves me 10 grand.

reconfig Says: 5:35 pm, March 25th, 2009

Hey monty… how long do you think garlett can stay in the blues 22 for?? There isnt much point putting him in if he get replaced a couple of weeks in to the season. Am i correct in saying that yarren will be fighting for garlett’s spot over the next few weeks?

fishtaylor Says: 5:37 pm, March 25th, 2009

what is wrong with cotchin? any tips for a middie around $300,000 to start in my 22 week 1?

garreth Says: 5:37 pm, March 25th, 2009

so do the rest of the lineups come out at 5pm tomorrow?

poos Says: 5:38 pm, March 25th, 2009

Hey, Aaron Joseph will get the run with role. Do you see that happening all year?

DC Says: 5:39 pm, March 25th, 2009

That’s right Garreth, and so begins the 160 minutes of malestrom….

Pete Says: 5:39 pm, March 25th, 2009

so fev is named: who should i pick as no 3 forward between the fev and s.johnson???
my thinking is johnson can get his own touches in a game giving consistancy and fev relys on the midfield but can score big ones when carlton are firing…

Boothy Says: 5:40 pm, March 25th, 2009

No Rance is disappointing too. Is anyone looking at making a change to ensure a benched point scorer for rd1?

Pete Says: 5:41 pm, March 25th, 2009

fishtaylor: brent rielly in SC. i have him!

reconfig Says: 5:41 pm, March 25th, 2009

err… waite is half forward… not half back… interesting. Does anyone know if waite played up forward anytime last season, and if he did, was his performance good?

gerry01 Says: 5:44 pm, March 25th, 2009

how close were you monty?

m0nty Says: 5:47 pm, March 25th, 2009

gerry01: pretty close! The Browne/Graham decision was changed in the last week or two due to training form, otherwise I had Richmond down pat. Carlton was a bit harder to pick and I didn’t think they’d go with so many youngsters, plus I hadn’t heard Walker wouldn’t come up.

gerry01 Says: 5:49 pm, March 25th, 2009

good job. i was using those drafts heaps and you getting that close makes me stress less for the rest of my decisions

L.MAC Says: 5:52 pm, March 25th, 2009

looks dicey gents :( I think Dan Browne is writing a best seller cracking this code, Robinson and perhaps Jacobs for me. the rest are so unpredictable

Nate Says: 6:04 pm, March 25th, 2009

Re: fishtaylor - Cotchin has achilles tendonitis and won’t make the seniors until Round 5 or 6 at the earliest.

noolde Says: 6:05 pm, March 25th, 2009

no walker? what’s wrong with him.

Kyn Says: 6:12 pm, March 25th, 2009

No Brad Fisher named either…

Pete Says: 6:30 pm, March 25th, 2009

does cash not spent before rd 1 carry over into the main season??? this is for SC…

Jonny Hart Says: 6:37 pm, March 25th, 2009

Walker as an emergency? I don’t need this crap from Ratten. He’s fit or he isn’t.

Cicjose Says: 6:43 pm, March 25th, 2009

Cousins in forward pocket????

thats really awkward if i have him in midfield and doesnt get much on ball time :(

wal Says: 6:45 pm, March 25th, 2009

aaron joseph brought in to play on cuz - good luck son :)

The Fone Says: 6:50 pm, March 25th, 2009

why play Graham through all pre season and now slot in Browne after they both had similar games last week???

I thought Graham was a 3-4 week lock in

TwoBeaus Says: 6:52 pm, March 25th, 2009

walker is very very suspicious

jasondevo Says: 6:53 pm, March 25th, 2009

Fev was always gonna play

I’m a carlton supporter and he never misses a big game

pnut Says: 7:16 pm, March 25th, 2009

monty, who do u see going out of the carlton team once walker, stevens, carrazzo an probably grigg are back in the team?

ANTMANS Says: 7:25 pm, March 25th, 2009

how many people are swapping yarran for garlett ?????

m0nty Says: 7:38 pm, March 25th, 2009

Good question pnut. Joseph would be out for Grigg, if not sooner. Russell would be out for Carrazzo. Wiggins out for Walker. As for Stevens, he would replace Hadley or Robinson I think, depending on form.

bomber t Says: 7:38 pm, March 25th, 2009

i need some more SC and DT leagues to join

Sam Says: 7:42 pm, March 25th, 2009

Hmm.. i’m starting a rookie.

Walker and Brown are locked in and the third spot i’m not sure about. Garlett or Hogan are favourites now.

Monty, who do you see as playing more games?

Disco (UK) Says: 7:48 pm, March 25th, 2009

monty - based on your last comment, Jacobs seems to be the only rookie worth having.

Heater Says: 7:52 pm, March 25th, 2009

I have to say that I’m sick and tired of looking at my squad; re-jigging it and the re-jigging it again! I just had a final look and barring any major changes it stays as it is…..

Gone with Ballantyne on my bench as I reckon he’ll come straight in when he is ready if he is not right for this week or next. Also gone with Broughton & L.Anthony on my bench and have taken a risk with L.Henderson.

Jimbo Says: 7:52 pm, March 25th, 2009

Re: Sam

Im in the exact same position as you with the rookies, either Garlett or Hogan…

Would love to go Hogan coz the kid will do well but can he break into the cats side, i have my doubts…

Monty, any ideas?

Brad Says: 7:58 pm, March 25th, 2009

@ Pete.
Yes it does mate.
You can keep savings in the bank for use when trading later if you wish.
No more than $50,000 tho. m0nty note: that is wrong, you keep all your cash.

Sam Says: 7:59 pm, March 25th, 2009

Hogan is in my team at the moment. I want to sort it out tonight because i am at uni all day tomo and don’t want to risk a trade during the maelstrom!

Monty, PLEASE HELP!!

John Says: 8:01 pm, March 25th, 2009

“james Says:
How long do you think the browne experiment will last??? Hes very skinny young ruckmen.. Doubt he’ll will play heaps this year.”

Skinny? Your kidding right!!

He’s 105kg and the heaviest player on Richmond’s list so I don’t know where you got your information from mate.

T-Lads Says: 8:04 pm, March 25th, 2009

when is coughland expected to come in to the team?

Clint Says: 8:14 pm, March 25th, 2009

it’s gonna be a hard one to tip, i rekon the tigers might have the edge at the moment

james Says: 8:23 pm, March 25th, 2009

John.. i didnt know that.. I have just seen two pictures of him and was comparing him to graham.. Just found it strange why chose graham over him.. being younger and both delivering similar performances in the NAB matches.. guess it came down to Training form.

T-Lads Says: 8:27 pm, March 25th, 2009

monty, when is cougland and rance expected to play, if at all??

Benii Says: 8:44 pm, March 25th, 2009

Since when are you capped at having only $50,000 left in the bank? I can’t see that in any of the rules.

PlayEr Says: 8:48 pm, March 25th, 2009

Sam Jacobs or Andrew Browne?

John Says: 8:48 pm, March 25th, 2009

@ James

True, I thought Graham would play instead of him. I didn’t really know anything about Browne.

m0nty Says: 9:12 pm, March 25th, 2009

That $50k thing is wrong, you get all the cash you leave in your kitty at round 1.

DC Says: 9:17 pm, March 25th, 2009

Benii, I reckon he meant only having $50,000 leftover in the bank just as a recommendation. You can leave as much there as you please, but it’s probably best to spend as much as you can to improve your squad. Up to you of course, some people like to have money ready for their first trade.

ax Says: 9:18 pm, March 25th, 2009

no brad fisher?

Simonoz Says: 9:45 pm, March 25th, 2009

Monty - whats the news at Hawthorn with the kids - thorp/whitecross/suckling & some others.

Is is a point that it doesnt really matter, because as the seniors trickle back in, they’ll drop one by one ?

Sucklings PS form looks to be the best of the bunch.

Thanks

ryab Says: 10:02 pm, March 25th, 2009

does anyone think that grimes is worth puting on the bench for a few weeks. does anyone have new info on the injury? 2 weeks maximum????

Brad Says: 10:06 pm, March 25th, 2009

@ Pete & Monty,

Sorry if you misunderstood what i was trying to say.
I was just recommending that if you leave more than $50K or so in the bank you may not have used your funds to their full potential.
I was not at anytime trying to suggest that it was s/c regualtion that you could keep $50K max.
I had a guy in my office put together his squad and had 4-5 million left bcoz he thought the game was about making a squad with as much money left over as possible.
Apologies if i lead you up the garden path.

@ DC
You were spot on mate, thanks for the support there.

Pete Says: 10:39 pm, March 25th, 2009

Sweet thanks Brad.
yeah i have 37 k remaining in a squad i am pretty happy with and was unsure if it would go to waste.

rupert Says: 10:41 pm, March 25th, 2009

Should i name Scarlett as my captain this week… because Hawthorn always kick it to Franklin so Matty wil surely get alot of kicks too. Or would it be better to name a midfielder, maybe Judd or Cousins??

Flash Says: 10:46 pm, March 25th, 2009

Monty are you gunna be putting the teams on here as soon as they are availible tomorrow?? If not does anyone know the best place to see them??

Flash Says: 10:49 pm, March 25th, 2009

Would be a gutsy move to make scarlet captain Rupert.. Midfielders are probly your best bet or look for gun players playing crap teams.. Im leaning towards port players this week cause i think they will smash essendon

Bo Says: 10:56 pm, March 25th, 2009

I suggest keeping at least 200k in the bank for the start of the season to give you flexibility to jump on anyone who bursts out of the blocks early.

I used to keep 10%, ie 1 million in supercoach for upgrades early, especially if you haven’t seen many preseason matches. It allows you to hop on or off anyone for almost the entire year without having to forcibly trade down for money.

It dosent really affect your average that much, but your swings are bigger, you’ll prob do better in you league but worse with overall ranking with this system.

Just pointing out that keepin cash in the bank is a viable tactic.

Cam Says: 11:08 pm, March 25th, 2009

“It dosent really affect your average that much”

Maths not your strong point?

If you keep $1m in the bank you’re average will be less as your scoring potential will be less. Even $200k will make a significant difference.

Flash Says: 11:35 pm, March 25th, 2009

Not true Cam… If you find a $200000 player that averages the same as a $400000 your average is the same but youve got $200000 in the bank… Find a few of them and you have a tidy bank account. I started with $800000 in the bank last year and came 39th overall in supercoach.

ben Says: 11:58 pm, March 25th, 2009

cicjose, get johnson and fev. good prices both

m0nty Says: 1:24 am, March 26th, 2009

Flash: yes, I will be posting teams here as soon as I can get them. I will also be doing a live video podcast starting around 4:30pm tomorrow which will take us through much of the 160 minutes of madness, at the least until all the teams are in (and until the VS servers melt).

Also I will be doing v8 of my teams projections this evening.

Simonoz Says: 1:44 am, March 26th, 2009

Also I will be doing v8 of my teams projections this evening……..

MONTY - its 2am in the morning there right?
When u say this evening, do you mean now as in early bloody morning, or are you talking about Thursday night mate ?

Tks…

m0nty Says: 2:30 am, March 26th, 2009

Actually it might be in the morning because I have been fighting with the podcast MP3 and now I’m tired. :/

Brad Says: 8:42 am, March 26th, 2009

@ Pete,
Obviously there are mixed opinions about how much cash to leave in the bank.
I personally think $200k is way too much but if you are happy with your squad and you have $37k left over then there is no need to make any changes anyway.
Good luck.

T-train Says: 8:51 am, March 26th, 2009

For all those wondering on Hogan, this is from the AFL website…

As a sign of how fierce Friday night will be, Geelong will play no first-gamers.

“It’s our first game, we’re playing a team that’s a good team, that we really want to do well against, I don’t think throwing them in against a team like Hawthorn is necessarily a good thing,” Thompson said.

Dare2Dream Says: 9:11 am, March 26th, 2009

Love all the banter guys. Anyone looking to join in some more are welcome to join our DT league - 721032. The guys are keen footy fans - we’ll see if their DT passion meets the footy passion. Good luck to all this season!

Larry Says: 9:30 am, March 26th, 2009

I’m hoping we get some selection news through the day so we’re not all trying to swap rookies during the maelstrom.
Any spots left in SC leagues?

ax Says: 10:16 am, March 26th, 2009

cousins or tarkyn lockyer

arrrg im in a situation, dont know which to pick as they are almost identical in price

Larry Says: 10:42 am, March 26th, 2009

All depends on cousins’ fitness ax. Lockyer will play 22 for OK scores but if the little cokehead gets his motor running - look out. I’m taking a risk on the crack whore.

Nick Says: 11:34 am, March 26th, 2009

“In brighter news for the Roos, draftees Liam Anthony and Jack Ziebell will debut in the side’s season opener against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.

‘It’s a real look to the future,’ coach Dean Laidley said. ‘I think [supporters] will be really excited to see those two take the field.’”

-AFL.com

No… way…

fryzie Says: 11:47 am, March 26th, 2009

@ Nick

Don’t believe him! He is the father of lies!

Raf Says: 12:00 pm, March 26th, 2009

He would have been lynched if Anthony and Ziebell didn’t play round 1, that’s not the point. WHAT ABOUT ROUND 2 DEAN? That’s his trick (see also Thompson, Scott).

Mark Harvey confirmed Hill will be in the 25 but refused to confirm he will be in the 22. Great mindgames there Harvs. For your next trick, confirm that Pavlich will be in the team but refuse to confirm what position he’ll play, that’ll learn ‘em.

wardy Says: 12:17 pm, March 26th, 2009

VS server is looking very very shakey already and it is only 12:30pm.
Best of luck to anyone who decides to make a change after the team sheets come out.
You could be risking the biggest fattest krispy kreme doughnut of em all if you decide to make changes after 5:00pm today.
BEWARE.

Is DT Talk workin for you guys??? Mine says account suspended” or something. The DT world is falling apart!!! Still got FanFooty though.

Knoblet Says: 1:46 pm, March 26th, 2009

LMAO now thats seriously funny but when you consider the fact that it supposed to be for $50k !!

its 2009 and the AFL website still allows us all to access via their 56k server

AFL dreamteam is a shambles

Michael Says: 2:36 pm, March 26th, 2009

gerry01: pretty close! The Browne/Graham decision was changed in the last week or two due to training form, otherwise I had Richmond down pat.

Monty - didn’t you have cousins missing a while ago!

m0nty Says: 2:40 pm, March 26th, 2009

Yes Michael, but I did change that in the most recent version. ;)

Flash Says: 2:54 pm, March 26th, 2009

Does anyone know if Wade thomson has been promoted off the rookie list yet?

Pump Says: 3:04 pm, March 26th, 2009

Does anyone have any ideas who to go for out of Harry Taylor or Ryan Houlihan, having some second thoughts about having taylor in my team!!!!!

Brad Says: 3:09 pm, March 26th, 2009

Anyone would think that we were just about to land at Omaha Beach 1944, such is the anxiety & fear in the room.
I can hear fantasy coaches vomiting all over their lounge rooms as they naviagte through the swells and getting ever so close to the shore line only to be greated by the deafening sounds of servers crashing.

Charlie Says: 3:14 pm, March 26th, 2009

Is Fevola playing?

Pump Says: 3:21 pm, March 26th, 2009

Taylor/Houlihan…..Dew/Rioli

Batesy Says: 3:24 pm, March 26th, 2009

Monty… no version 8 of the teams?

SpikeSetsFire Says: 3:28 pm, March 26th, 2009

Fevola is playing.

Good luck tonight, Monty. With the DT site crumbling, DT Talk KO’d, how do you think your site will cope? Every man and his dog will be using you Live Scores feature tonight.

Remember in the NAB Cup, there was a game where scores kept reverting back to the 17 minute mark in the 1st Quarter? And everyone kept hassling you? But it wasn’t your fault, it was GameDay/Champion Data, which you feed through. If they struggled with traffic in the NAB Cup, what’s it going to be like tonight in the sold out blockbuster, season opener?

Pump Says: 3:30 pm, March 26th, 2009

pleasee tips hahah, im desperatee

m0nty Says: 3:35 pm, March 26th, 2009

Batesy: sorry, I didn’t find the time.

Spike: That is what has occupied me today, getting our ducks in line for tonight.

Charlie Says: 3:38 pm, March 26th, 2009

Monty - preseason over. Job well done. Thank-you. Your posts and speculation have helped me greatly and left me feeling very comfortable with my team.

Best of luck through the season, both with the site and your team.

chris Says: 3:40 pm, March 26th, 2009

Pump - Houlihan over Taylor - better bargain.

Then use the money you saved to upgrade Rioli/Dew to someone better if you can.

If not, take Rioli.

SpikeSetsFire Says: 3:41 pm, March 26th, 2009

Awesome. Unfortunately I’ll be working when the game is on, so I’m going to miss all the fun.

I know some of us are going to be interested in your progress during the year too. Are you going to keep a round by round blog with your team, trades, overall rank and progress etc…? Any chance of an appearance on a DT Talk episode in the future? =)

These servers are an absolute joke!!!

Raf Says: 12:57 am, March 27th, 2009

Hey Monty.

I think you got the last laugh on the “Cousins for round 1″ saga after all!

Simonoz Says: 2:47 am, March 27th, 2009

Monty - from New York City - many thanks for your blogs/insight/humor over the last few months leading up to that crazy 160 minutes last night, followed by Cousins torn hammy….poor bastard.

As a newbie to this site, but not SC - I’m assuming that your around all season right to help us poor lost souls?

Certainly some surprises at the selection table last night - had many coaches punching their computer screens - and that was before they tried to log onto SC - which basically fizzled out like a lame duck.

No live SC scores this year it seems huh?
I guess the AFL does wield the power by only promoting live DT scores…..or is this a Champion Data decision?

Again thanks - could NEVER have put together an semi-decent without you.

Best, SimonOz
