A bit of Fanplanner housekeeping

I should record a couple of things that have changed with the Fanplanner recently. First, I have tweaked the magic number due to some discussions with respected fantasy coaches. Second, I’ve added a new line below completed teams listing your “structure”, which requires a bit of explanation. (more…)

The 1/20 plan Dream Team

This is a post I’ve been meaning to do for a while. I watch the Fanplanner plan teams come and go in the FanFooty databases each week, and I have a page where I can see the popularity of players in the last X number of teams in either Dream Team or Super Coach. The following is a planned Dream Team made up of players who only appear once in the last 20 plan teams entered into FanFooty. (more…)

2009 AFL jumper numbers

Yes, it really is silly season at the moment for football news. Most of the rehab groups at club training have dwindled down to nothing, the training drills are all the same day after day, and everyone’s “flying” if you read the mainstream press. Don’t laugh, there may actually be some merit to combing through the jumper numbers given to new recruits. (more…)

2009 fantasy smokies club by club (2 of 2)

This is part two of my fantasy “smokies” post (see part one), where I comb through AFL lists searching for gold among the river mud, as every fantasy coach does at this time of year. (more…)

2009 fantasy smokies club by club (1 of 2)

Every fantasy coach wants to find that obscure kid who is being hidden on an AFL list that almost nobody is talking about, who then proceeds to play 10-22 games out of nowhere. Think Josh Hill and Austin Wonaeamirri from last year. Let’s see if we can throw up a name from each club who could be this year’s “smokie”. (I’ll break this post into two since it will be a long one.) (more…)

Rodney Eade signals 10+ games for Jarrad Grant

Western Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade told radio Sport 927 this morning that, among other things, he wants to give 2007 first-round draft pick Jarrad Grant 10 or more games in 2009, playing as a forward pocket or flanker as the third tall in the Dogs’ heretofore dwarfish forward line. Another forward rookie for fantasy coaches to salivate over! (more…)

Paul Duffield breaks hand, Suban followers rejoice

Comes news from the wild West that Paul Duffield has broken his hand at training and will miss the next month, which should cover the Dockers’ round 1 NAB appointment with Richmond. Who, you may ask? It’s not really all that important who he is, especially if you’re a Nick Suban groupie who is gagging to hear news of his early selection for Fremantle. (more…)

Best of the 2009 preseason training photos

Where would our offseason be without the hardcore fans who rock up at ungodly hours of the morning to windswept, sleet-driven suburban footy grounds to see their boys work off the holiday kilos? We’d be a lot less informed, that’s where. Plenty of these hardy souls also take along their digital cameras, so let’s look through the galleries for the most revealing snapshots. (more…)

To Buddy or not to Buddy: Lance Franklin’s sore shoulder

Lance “Buddy” Franklin’s recovery program from off-season shoulder surgery is a huge fantasy issue. (more…)

Blink and you’ll miss it! I was kindly flown up to Sydney late last year by Google to do this interview to talk about their AdSense program and get a sneaky plug in for FanFooty, although the resultant story concentrates rather more on the bloke in the yacht than your humble correspondent… but if you were the editor, wouldn’t you? ;) (more…)
