King goes all limp-wristed

by m0nty | May 8th, 2008 | Comments : [33] | Categories: AFL Dream Team, Injuries, Lethal League, Other Competitions, Super Coach.

Is there any premium fantasy back who hasn’t got injured and/or suffered a form slump this year? The latest bad news is that Jake King has what the Tigers told SEN was a “crack in the wrist” with which he is “expected” to play in round 8, after rumours on both One-Eyed Richmond and Punt Road End suggested that the nuggety backman would be out for four to six weeks. Suggestions have been made that King sustained the injury when he pounded the turf in frustration after being beaten in a contest by Stephen Milne in the second quarter of last Saturday night’s game, with Milne going on to bag seven majors.

Despite the Richmond denials, this is poor news for King owners, if only for their sanity. The frustrating thing is that you’ll probably have to hang on training and selection news right up until 2.10pm on Saturday week, as this is the sort of 2007 Nigel Lappin-style injury that could lead to multiple late withdrawals, a la Des Headland in the last few weeks before he got shut down for the season. A lot of coaches bought King last week in exchange for Joel Bowden, and it would be doubly painful if King does miss games and Bowden then takes his spot.

Yep, I’m a glass-half-empty kind of bloke when it comes to fantasy defenders this year…

he is electrifying

CC Says: 7:50 pm, May 8th, 2008

At the moment I’m happy with 7 backs that average 70 as long as they all play.

Bart Says: 8:11 pm, May 8th, 2008

Symes down for 3-4 too. This blows. I’ve lost Cornes, Symes and King from my backline.

Riewoldt and Hodge out too.

sam Says: 8:59 pm, May 8th, 2008

what are peoples thoughts on joel Macdonald? im thinking of getting him for the injured symes

berkna Says: 10:24 pm, May 8th, 2008

with the lack of scoring backs in the backline, look for the smokey’s who are named as backs/centres or backs/forwards

eg, roughhead, wonaeamirri

Chris Says: 11:09 pm, May 8th, 2008

yeah im looking at roughead and wonaeamirri in back line as well as patfull from lions who is dark horse and cheap price, coming up with some reasonable ~65-70 scores and 90% game time but dont know too much about him. can anyone offer any insights?

Raines will fold straight back in to replace King if that is the case.

StevoTheDevo Says: 9:17 am, May 9th, 2008

What’s this about Des Headland being shut down for the season???
Are you referring to last year, or this??

pat Says: 10:06 am, May 9th, 2008

i hear joel macdonald had a farm?

glen Says: 10:19 am, May 9th, 2008

…and on that farm he had a bear

Chad Says: 10:32 am, May 9th, 2008

Chad Cornes, Symes and King from backline, Riewoldt from the forward line. *sigh*.

john Says: 11:20 am, May 9th, 2008

E I E I O

Eric Says: 11:29 am, May 9th, 2008

This is ridiculous …

I lost Cornes, Symes and Bowden last week. So last week I swap Cornes and Bowden for King and McLeod. Now I’ve lost King too.

I’ll be dark if McLeod gets injured in the Hall of Fame game …..

turnofpower Says: 11:38 am, May 9th, 2008

this year it seems if u dont have any injuries u should be in the top 1000

Rod Says: 11:46 am, May 9th, 2008

well nothing is confirmed about king as yet, so there is no point worrying…

turnofpower Says: 11:51 am, May 9th, 2008

monty! the glass isnt even half full when it comes to the back this year

Mo-town Says: 1:52 pm, May 9th, 2008

sam Says: 2:56 pm, May 9th, 2008

cry me a river !!!!!!! everybody is in the same boat… when one door closes another one opens

foschini Says: 3:05 pm, May 9th, 2008

The thing that the dreamteam organisers should look at is being a little less brutal on who they class as a back. We are all going down with the same people (for me Chad, symes, king) because running players who play across half back are consistently classed as centres. It’s a shame. The game would be more fun (although of course I love it already) if they made more players multiple position players.

Get well Kingy!

Recommending BJ - iknow he’s a forward but still - worth considering???

Raf Says: 6:01 pm, May 9th, 2008

Yeah, part of the reason that the backline is so screwed is that “back” seems to mean almost exclusively key position back or back pocket this year (neither of which are great fantasy positions). Guys like Scotland and Carazzo and Sinclair all got shorehorned into the centre.

Bill Says: 6:02 pm, May 9th, 2008

Give up Tommy. Not only to you try to advertise your lame site and unoriginal idea on BigFooty but now you try it in here. If you are reccommending BJ then why do you ask if he is worth considering & what has it got to do with King’s wrist?

Jordox Says: 1:30 pm, May 10th, 2008

all non chad cornes owners rejoiced when he went down. well im a non jake king owner, so hurrah!

anyway, off topic, MONTY, i desperately need some clarification. What is Travis Tuck’s breakeven for his next game? I ask because 155 doesn’t seem right, and that’s what it says on his player profile on this website

Rob Says: 5:11 pm, May 10th, 2008

Rob is absolutely copping it from behind this year down back.

lucky rob doesnt have jake king tho.

Maq Says: 3:30 pm, May 11th, 2008

Was considering picking him up but decided to go for Bock instead. Bolton is also good value

Jordox Says: 11:41 pm, May 12th, 2008

any word on tuck’s breakeven monty?
it’s always seemed to me, when you check the profile of a player who didn’t play the previous week, the breakeven is way off?
am i right monty or is t.tuck’s breakeven actually 155?
i need to know!!!

m0nty Says: 12:02 am, May 13th, 2008

No Jordox, it’s been updated. I finally figured out the bug and fixed it.

Jordox Says: 9:08 pm, May 13th, 2008

cheers monty, much appreciated

Gor Says: 7:45 pm, May 14th, 2008

king wasn’t on richmond’s injury list that was put out today. could they be hiding it in an attempt to just have him play through it? if these reports are true and his wrist is really stuffed, would they really try to hide it??

Henry Says: 11:59 pm, May 14th, 2008

G’day…
Looking to trade bowden out this week if he doesnt play for someone around the 345000 mark. I was thinking of trading him for birchall or burgoyne?
This would free up money and i could trade hill for pavlich or chapman?
Which players would you advise i get?
Burgoyne or Birchall?
Chapman or Pavlich?
Cheers, help me out.

Dylan Says: 1:04 pm, May 15th, 2008

hey henry i would think that peter Burgoyne would be better to go for then Birchall. Burgoyne is looking in good form, and out of Pavlich and Chapman thats a tough 1. Chapman will probably score more constant scores but Pavlich can get those big 1’s like 150 that could be nice for a captain. sorry cant really help with that 1.

Sean22 Says: 2:55 pm, May 15th, 2008

When will Sam Fisher pip up with some big 100’s, his form hasn’t really being that good this year and i have both him and Goddard who are yet to really hit their straps, any reasons on either? Cheers
