by m0nty | March 21st, 2008 | Comments : [26] | Categories: Rate My Team, Super Coach.

Backs:
Chad Cornes (vc), Joel Bowden, Andrew McLeod, Martin Mattner, Brad Symes, Daniel Bradshaw, Nathan J. Brown.
Scott D. Thompson (e), Albert Proud.

Midfielders:
Adam Goodes (c), Nick Stevens, Bryce Gibbs, Bachar Houli, Travis Tuck, Kieran Jack.
Craig Bird (e), Jarryn Geary.

Rucks
Jeff White, Darren Jolly.
Matthew Kreuzer, Shaun Hampson.

Forwards:
Matthew Pavlich, Nick Riewoldt, Brad Johnson, Jonathan Brown, Steve Johnson, Brett Deledio, Stuart Dew.
Kurt Tippett (e), Cyril Rioli.

I’m much happier with this team than my DT team, notwithstanding Gibbs’ round 1 performance. He’s easily replaceable. ;)

Wow Monty, you did a similar thing to me - no money spent in the midfield!

Maja Says: 12:31 pm, March 21st, 2008

I think that your in the same boat as me… I am also much happier with my super coach team than my dream team… I think that it was just easier to pick good super coach players rather than dream team… Thoughts?

Maja Says: 12:33 pm, March 21st, 2008

I meant it was easier to pick cheaper players who will score better

m0nty Says: 12:45 pm, March 21st, 2008

Super Coach has always been easier to pick due to the relaxed salary cap, Maja, I agree. Also, there are players I like better for SC, like Deledio and Bradshaw, and favourites of mine for DT who I don’t think will do as well in SC, like Simmonds and Nicoski.

I see you opted out of not picking Hall or Tredrea. I did the same. I think it should work in the long term, but it might make for some short term pain early in the season while they are at their fittest.

I have Gibbs as well after much delibration. Little disappointed about his score last night, but I honestly think he could end up out scoring Stevens over the year.

David Says: 9:51 pm, March 21st, 2008

I’m not sure I understand the recent trend to spend less money on midfielders. Midfielders are the ones with the most potential to have high scores. To pick up so many cheap players will have a detrimental effect on your score IMO.

You can’t expect players like Bryce Gibbs, Bachar Houli, Travis Tuck and Kieran Jack to score well consistently. Houli, Tuck and Jack will probably be good cash cows but to have 4 of them in your starting lineup will hurt.

HBM Says: 9:53 pm, March 21st, 2008

Everything’s a bit of a gamble at this stage and I reckon your team holds up all right… at the moment. ;)

m0nty Says: 11:15 pm, March 21st, 2008

David: yes, midfielders have the most potential to score highly, but by the same token they also have the most potential to increase their average. My strategy has always been to start with as many non-centre premiums as possible because I trust the centre rookies a lot more to gain value over the course of the year.

hi monty, would you mind giving us your fanfooty id for this team so we can keep track of how it progresses. Im very interested to monitor how this midfield concept of yours goes.

Ken Says: 1:40 am, March 22nd, 2008

yeh clearly you have to scimp somewhere and the midfield is the best place to do it. but generally i reckon just try and find the best value players anywhere. inevitably you’ll end up with a similar kind of team anyway IMO.

Patrick Says: 1:59 am, March 22nd, 2008

G’day Monty,
I see you’ve gone for Goodes as your captain too. Reckon he’ll be a less popular pick? Also, no Cox? Gone for more balance in the rucks?

m0nty Says: 2:03 am, March 22nd, 2008

Goodes has had his first decent pre-season in many years. Top-shelf SC gun when he’s firing. I’m gambling a bit on Cox’s early season form, he’s got a tough draw.

peter Says: 3:20 am, March 22nd, 2008

rate my SC team?

Backs:Cornes, Gilbee, Johncock, Hurn, Waters, Proud, K Bradley
Sthompson and Selwood.

Kruezer and Renouf

Forwards:Jbrown, Nbrown, Dthomas ,Koschitzke, Burton ,Porplyzia, Rioli

i realised im down a man down but thats what happens when not all the team sheets are in on time, i hate thursday nite games.

Chris Says: 11:03 am, March 22nd, 2008

Monty, what was your decision basis for choosing Steve Johnson? Are you expecting him to be more consistent this year?

m0nty Says: 11:33 am, March 22nd, 2008

I liked his NAB Cup game Chris, and I wanted someone from the Cats. Everyone else was too expensive!

Davey Says: 3:33 pm, March 22nd, 2008

wheres the livescores on here gone?

Jordox Says: 12:55 am, March 25th, 2008

shame about symes’ debut for the crows. let a lot of coaches down with a 20 in supercoach. good player tho, he’ll improve

Dyls Says: 11:20 am, March 25th, 2008

Monty u should have gone with BJ as ur capt I did and got a cool 364 for it Jono is always a top performer cause he gets great possies up the ground then the goals are the cream

Paul Says: 11:33 am, March 25th, 2008

Hi Monty thanks for all of your help in selecting my team. Just wondering about your thoughts on Symes. I have him as well but will move him to the bench this week as my rookies performed really well (Brown and Thompson). What are you planning to do with him? If he doesnt improve after next round I’m gonna trade him, cos don’t want to lose the cash.

m0nty Says: 2:13 pm, March 25th, 2008

Why weren’t you here saying that last Thursday, Dyls! :P
Paul, I blogged about Symes today in the Stay the Course entry.

Brett Says: 12:51 pm, March 27th, 2008

Hi Monty
Great looking team you have - must be happy with the way Kieran Jack went about it in round 1…
My question is over Le Cras - I have him in the forward line and now with 3-5 wks injury should I trade now or hold him hoping he recovers and gets a decent run in the midfield as is planned this year?

m0nty Says: 3:29 pm, March 27th, 2008

I’d offload Le Cras, Brett. Lots of cheap options to replace him: Dew, Thompson, Vince, Hill. Wait a week if you can and pick the best of them.

Brett Says: 3:52 pm, March 27th, 2008

As I thought - I have enough for Bustling Barry Hall or Giansiracusa - would you recommend going either of them or stick with the lower price bracket??

m0nty Says: 4:09 pm, March 27th, 2008

Hall: no. Gia… don’t like him personally, too up and down. Much better value at lower prices this year.

Brett Says: 11:50 am, March 31st, 2008

Hi Monty
Trade time this week - thinking of dumping a Danyl Pearce for Michael Osbourne of Hawks to pocket his jump in value and switch Le Cras to Porplyzia for similar reasons? Thoughts?
