M0nty’s Dream Team squad

by m0nty | March 21st, 2008 | Comments : [41] | Categories: AFL Dream Team, Rate My Team.

For those few of you who had been hanging out to see it, here it is.

Backs:
Chad Cornes (vc), Joel Bowden, Heath Shaw, Brad Symes, Mark Nicoski, Xavier Ellis, Scott D. Thompson.
Lachie Hansen, Albert Proud.

Midfielders:
Kane Cornes (c), Nathan Jones, Nick Stevens, Bryce Gibbs, Travis Tuck, Craig Bird.
Jarryn Geary (e), Cale Morton.

Rucks:
Jeff White, Troy Simmonds.
Cameron Wood, Matthew Kreuzer.

Forwards:
Jonathan Brown, Matthew Pavlich, Nick Riewoldt, Steve Johnson, Brad Johnson, Stuart Dew, Nathan Thompson.
Kurt Tippett (e), Cyril Rioli.

I’m not entirely happy with it. Gibbs has let me down already, albeit he did play in the middle for most of the game which is an improvement over back pocket. Another 50-odd and Gibbs is highly likely to get subbed out before round 3 for whoever looks more like this year’s Matt Priddis. I would have liked more time to go over the rookies who are actually playing in round 1… but that’s a topic for another post.

Agreed. I was reluctant with Gibbs as well. He is gone come round 3 unless he shows some promise next week.

No Cats in the midfield???

m0nty Says: 12:57 pm, March 21st, 2008

I couldn’t afford many Cats. Should have gone with Chappy. :(

Brad Says: 1:09 pm, March 21st, 2008

I wish I had Corey! :D

wonka Says: 1:13 pm, March 21st, 2008

wood and kreuzer as your back up rucks
what a waste of money
stuart dew hahahaahaahaahaahahahahhahha

Phillip Molly Malone Says: 1:25 pm, March 21st, 2008

I thought you poo pooed Woods on the Coaches Box

m0nty Says: 1:29 pm, March 21st, 2008

I criticised Wood as a starting player, yes, but he’s valid as a bench player IMO.

Jim Says: 2:32 pm, March 21st, 2008

hey m0nty, have you heard about a bunch of DT teams apparently getting wiped when the site crashed? happened to me. I’m hoping its just some short term glitch… has anything like this happened before?

m0nty Says: 2:47 pm, March 21st, 2008

I did hear that Jim, there have been plenty of complaints about it on the various blogs and boards. That’s VirtualSports’ problem. I hope they do the right thing by those affected.

Athomas Says: 4:14 pm, March 21st, 2008

Nice team, and by the way great work with the ‘your team LIVE!’ feature.

Love it.
Projected total 2033. ;) I wish :P

young gun Says: 5:41 pm, March 21st, 2008

nice team monty your forward line is exceptional! did u spend all ur money? i feel ur frward line is too strong and costly…nice team though

Ken Says: 5:56 pm, March 21st, 2008

good to see nathan jones in your mid monty. i reckon hes gonna dominate. kept that to myself, very happy you did the same! haha.

i am livid i didnt get chappas, oh well i’ll just get him later.

the 70 minutes of madness was a joke. i got 3 out of 4 trades done, no emergencies and a few zeros on the park and 3 of my mates couldnt even get in. i was trying for 70 minutes straight as well

CC Says: 6:32 pm, March 21st, 2008

I don’t get this “your team LIVE” thing. I’ve entered my team but no scores or anything are coming up. A little guide on what to do would be nice.

HBM Says: 9:55 pm, March 21st, 2008

Gibbs and X Ellis are much of a muchness for me. Both ‘could’ go on with things this season, but it’s just a gamble on either of them at the moment.

yeah, I took the gamble. :)

KRG Says: 10:18 pm, March 21st, 2008

Chappy in hindsight is disappointing (he was in my team (FF) for months) but 445k or so with no preseason form and restricted pre-season training means that dropping him seemed like a prudent decision. I swear the AFL crew (coaches & players) have started toying with DT’ers (except Chad of course, he loves his DT coaches - a good Adelaide boy). Just remember, Chappy had all the hallmarks of massive money mis-spent pre game last night - until post game.

KRG Says: 10:28 pm, March 21st, 2008

I don’t have T. Tuck but will be very interested to see how high he goes before the others come back from jail. Sorry to say Monty, I hope not too high as an arch rival has him….. Do you think he will remain after that?

m0nty Says: 11:09 pm, March 21st, 2008

I’m confident that he’ll last until Crawf comes back, KRG. Stokes will most likely be dropped for Hodge next week, and then I’m hoping it’s Murphy or Osborne who get dropped for Lewis. The fact that Tuck was named as rover gives me a good amount of confidence.

m0nty Says: 12:05 am, March 22nd, 2008

My live scores page for this team:

KRG Says: 12:09 am, March 22nd, 2008

Thanks Monty.
PS The Live Scores are awesome whilst watching a game. My girlfriend just loves enduring back to back matches when I am only staring at my laptop anyway. An issue for afew FF Fans this season I reckon. We may all have even more spare time on our hands by seasons end.

m0nty Says: 12:37 am, March 22nd, 2008

Hey KRG, give your GF my email address! ;) :D

KRG Says: 12:50 am, March 22nd, 2008

We’ll see at the end of the season Monty, if I win her a car she just might keep me…

Brett Says: 1:04 am, March 22nd, 2008

when is the afl going to wake up and put a game on good friday

Ken Says: 1:34 am, March 22nd, 2008

yeh bloody hell! i want to watch some footy! heres hoping travis tuck stays, i think he will.

peter Says: 3:08 am, March 22nd, 2008

CC Says: 9:36 am, March 22nd, 2008

monty. Still can’t get my live scores going.

http://www.fanfooty.com.au/exteam/list.php?id=13596

I’m stuck at that.

How I got there was:
Went to “Account”, clicked on “Enter Ext. Team” from the drop down menu, then entered my team using the second option.

CC Says: 9:38 am, March 22nd, 2008

Oh my gosh I’m an idiot, ignore my previous reply. Didn’t know there was an actual link under the “Game” tab to see the live scores.

nick Says: 3:37 pm, March 22nd, 2008

monty i think it’s a mistake to stack your forwards like that

i much prefer to stack my midfield with consistent performers

forwards can always have a bad day and i reckon there are enough safe rookies and quality middle tier players to fill up the forwards - rioli, tippet, porplyzia

i’m really happy so far with corey as my captain! i think porplyzia and solomon will be my middle tier stars in ‘08

Ken Says: 1:14 am, March 24th, 2008

theres more value in the middle tho.

i think solomon will probably continue to eat his own nob in 08.

damo Says: 11:57 pm, March 24th, 2008

yay monty another nathan jones fan.. hes good value for 306k ive got lucas and le cras and im thinking trading for lloyd and n.thompson.. what do u think.. is it bad to use 2 trades in rd 1??

Jordox Says: 12:51 am, March 25th, 2008

i reckon 2 in the first week be a bit much, thats just me tho.

Monty, i dig your team. I don’t necessarily agree with having that many guns in the forward line but i like how many risks you’re taking early.
You’ll probably have some sloppy scores early but eventually i can see a lot of those young kids making you lotsa moolah.
What was your score this week by the way?

m0nty Says: 6:22 am, March 25th, 2008

1851 this week, good enough for 1607th. Solid start.

Gibbs and Bird are worrying me. I won’t trade this week, but if those two don’t improve I might have to act.

matt Says: 11:18 am, March 25th, 2008

i think yopu should have put cyril rioli in the team and not had nathan thompson and got a rookie for him so that way you would have had money to up grade anther player for a better one

Ken Says: 12:59 pm, March 25th, 2008

yeh im in that territory as well. poised to pounce. did anyway see ricky dyson yesterday any word on why he performed so dismally? that is a worry!

Simon Says: 1:01 pm, March 25th, 2008

nice team monty, your gamble with dew and thommo paid off well, i didn’t get either of them and I’m definitely regretting that decision. Dyson and stanton absolutely destroyed my score in the middle, not to mention the 0s playing with that 70 minutes of madness. 1727 is all i could really hope for in the circumstances. By the way didn’t you say D Cox was a lock?

Simon Says: 1:03 pm, March 25th, 2008

Dyson was painfull wasn’t he Ken,a t least you didn’t have stanton too, curse you rawlings.

brad Says: 1:38 pm, March 25th, 2008

I had stanton, dyson and lucas…

m0nty Says: 2:15 pm, March 25th, 2008

Yeah Simon, my gamble that Cox would start slow isn’t really paying off so far. Oh well.

Daryl Says: 3:22 pm, March 25th, 2008

Monty,

Contrary to other opinions here i think your strategy of going strong on the forwards and cheaper in the mids will pay nicely in the long run. As we know there will be no shortage of underpriced gun mids to get on from about Rd 6 onwards. There are nowhere near the number of gun fwds so I say get ‘em at the start and buy the mids as they become affordable. Your score has kept you in touch with the leaders so your strategy is sound.

chizzy Says: 4:14 pm, March 25th, 2008

hows the guy laughing at Stewie Dew. Cult hero and his value is about to go through the roof due to his breakevens

Simon Says: 9:27 pm, March 25th, 2008

same with my gamble on simmonds starting slow mate haha.

Ausyid Says: 11:46 pm, March 25th, 2008

Does anyone really think Stuart Dew will back up his performance from this week.

He isn’t going to be playing Melbourne anymore.

There is no way I will be trading him in.

AB Says: 3:57 pm, April 16th, 2008

Monty this is a woeful team. Your midfield is dreadful. Save yourself some heartache and bring Bartell and Corey in ASAP.
