I got an email today from a couple of blokes offering to sell me naming rights on their AFL Dream Team league. Yes, you read that right. Someone thinks that it’s worth some of my money to name their league “www.fanfooty.com.au” as a guerrilla marketing tactic so I can get branding on VirtualSports’ Web site. What a crazy industry this is!
The price they asked was far more than I think the “service” is worth. I don’t want to reprint their email in full, but let’s just say their fee was well into four figures. They claimed it was just to cover their members’ entry fees so that they can offer big cash prizes to the winner, and the fee would only be payable if their league was in the top 10 leagues for at least 10 weeks.
I have to admire these guys, they have balls of steel. I suppose it’s only a matter of time before they find a willing buyer, but I think they might need to lower their price just a tad. What do you think would be a fair fee for naming rights to a top 10 fantasy league? Any takers for a number greater than zero?

Surely it’s the other way around. They pay you for the honour of running a competition with your name to it
people will do nething to make a quick buck
If I was to put a figure on it I’m thinking $500. I’d give them more for placing in the top 3 and or the top of the comp.
Their balls are so big they carry them around in a wheelbarrow!
I’ll sell you the naming rights of my team. I’ll be first ranked
haha kidding of course (about the naming rights part).
Crap blog seriously! can”t we find something worth talking about! usual wait in anticipation for the new blog you have let me down much like the AFL who consistenly makes us DT’ers wait weeks after SCC is already open. Shame on you!
Footy H&A (and DT) season hasn’t started yet, and Monty’s given far too much information out already. What more do you want?
How about if he jumps into the future in a time machine and then comes back to give us a run down of EVERY player for the 2008 season.. Then will you ungrateful people be happy.
No, shame on you.
i guess your rejecting my offer then monty?
hahaha. but seriously: sam, mate. you have no idea if you are bashing this site. this is a goldmine. moreover, i thought it was interesting that someone would try that.
Monty isn’t going to put his good stuff on this blog! You have to listen to the Coaches Box for the gold!
Molly
Ken,
If you read what i wrote you would see that i was bagging the blog, it was not thought provoking and i guarentee it will not have as money responses as the previous (top ten signs).
Cam,
Your right Monty has given much information which any fool can get his hands on for a price!! it’s how you use it that counts…
Monty, I believe the naming rights proposal is a fantastic idea. If the league happens to make it into the top 10 regularly, then the exposure to fanfooty.com.au will be priceless.
Many of the dreamteam public are unaware of the pure genius that is fanfooty.com.au. Therefore, an ‘advertisement’ on a page that is visited by every dreamteamer frequently can only maximize the number of viewers on this treasured website.
I say, if the league can guarantee you a top 10 finish, then they have come up with a brilliant idea.
I want to join a fanfooty league, if anyone has a spare space in their league, please email me details at rohanlyle@gmail.com
We’ll sellout.. haha.. We’re going to call our league dreamteamtalk.com, but no top 10 finishes for us! far too many duds (inc. me!)…
it could be worth $500 to the league… can be the prize money for first? would be a good carrot.. that’s if they 1) finish top 10, 2) are in the top 20 for at least half the DT season… and 3) each member must click your google ads 5 times a day over the whole season! i’d get on that!!
We’ve decided to reject the offer. Politically, it’s not smart to try to sabotage or undermine VirtualSports. We are of the opinion that FanFooty actually helps VS by delivering a service to their customers to enhance their DT/SC experience that they, through no fault of their own, have been unable to provide thus far due to the restrictive nature of Telstra’s exclusive Internet deal with the AFL. We have no grudge against VS, and we don’t wish to antagonise them.
We’ll have to find some other, more low-key ways to publicise FanFooty.
The first way is don’t forget to mention it your friends and family and on the Message box/board of the Leagues your in!
Keep up the fine work Monty.
Molly
Molly, you may be a relatively wise man, but if you think that I am going to let my competitors in DT into the gold on this site preseason if they havent found it yet, you are DREAMING!
