Forum roundup: Corey Jones adds to forward frenzy

by m0nty | August 9th, 2007 | Comments : [27] | Categories: Injuries, Selection.

As if there weren’t enough for fantasy coaches to think about going into round 19, comes unconfirmed news from the North board at BigFooty that Corey Jones limped off at training with a possible left knee injury.

Speaking of Brad Johnson, the denizens of the Bulldogs board on the same site seem to think it’s almost a lock for Andrew McDougall to come in for him, referencing coach Eade’s comments in the very pessimistic Herald-Sun story on the subject.

The happy team at Cat’s Claw seem to have no special insight into whether Paul Chapman or Brad Ottens will play, but consensus is leaning towards no on both counts, with a bit more pessimism about Chappy than Otto.

The long-suffering fans at BomberBlitz are grumbling about Scott Camporeale as usual, but there is also talk of Scott Lucas not fronting up and Adam Ramanauskas being rested.

The TalkingCarlton crew think that a late change of Shaun Hampson in for the still-proppy Setanta O’hAilpin might be on the cards.

Over at Nick’s, the Magpie fans applauded the dropping of Alan Didak but are suspicious of the presence of Brad Dick and newly-promoted rookie Sharrod Wellingham on the emergency list, with both mooted as late changes.

Brad Symes and Steven Salopek are the fan favourites who missed out on selection this week over at The Power From Port. Salopek is returning from injury through the SANFL, and Symes seems to have been squeezed out by the Burgoyne brethren.

Some forceful words about the quality of Clinton Jones‘ game last week stand out in the Saintsational thread about this week’s game against the Swans, Jones having been moved from the bench to the wing in the St Kilda team this week. The other source of angst is the replacement of Matthew Clarke with Michael Rix in the ruck.

im up against the top side and he has chapman and johnson, so fingers crossed they pull out

ken Says: 12:33 am, August 10th, 2007

if they both pull out i can almost kiss this week goodbye

Carrots Says: 9:08 am, August 10th, 2007

This week I was hoping to downgrade Warnock and upgrade Darcy to White, but I’ve got both BJ and Chaps, I’ve got 5 trades and am in an elimination final. Also, with Miller unnamed I’ve got no cover in the backline, but all my backs have been named.

I’ve got Edwards covering for BJ and Chaps, but if both don’t play then I’m in trouble.

In the esteemed opinions of the dudes here, should I upgrade to White or should I remove the risk of BJ and Chaps and trade in Steve Johnson/Gablett and Volt? I guess I’m leaning towards trading out my two favourite forwards to make sure I totally win this game. Trades are no use if I’m out of the finals race.

Thoughts?

Ed Says: 10:49 am, August 10th, 2007

I’d probably just do a straight trade of either Chapman or BJ for Gablett. Edwards might not play either so you could be a forward down. I wouldn’t trade both of them though unless you knew the other team was going to be hard to beat.

shane Says: 10:55 am, August 10th, 2007

i would look at rieVOLT over g ablett as he has averaged 121 over the last 4 and looks in great touch… with the saints needing to do a lot more to make the finals than the cats i thnk Volt will be used more

Jordox Says: 2:18 pm, August 10th, 2007

id trade chapman instead of johnson because johnson looks more likely to play. plus the crows will try and play tight keepings off football against the cats which wont be good for their fantasy numbers. Whereas if Johnson plays, hes up against the hopeless demons under the roof at the dome.

m0nty Says: 2:21 pm, August 10th, 2007

I don’t wish to alarm, but someone has started a rumour on BigFooty that Judd will miss…

Carrots Says: 3:03 pm, August 10th, 2007

Thanks guys, that’s helped heaps. If neither Edwards, Chaps or BJ play then I’ll be two forwards down with no cover. I think I will trade both out, ‘cos I figure the entire finals hopes (and $100) are on the line on this game. If both BJ and Chaps have injury concerns, then if they did play they probably won’t get the scores I’m after.

Chaps direct trade for Volt.
BJ direct for Steve Johnson or anyone below that… is there someone better? Gablett is too expensive.

Thomas Says: 3:35 pm, August 10th, 2007

yeah volt is a good choice.. plus if u make it to the grandfinal stkilda will play richmond meaning plenty of delivery to nicky

Ed Says: 3:51 pm, August 10th, 2007

There’s not really any better options in the forward line for around or less than Steve Johnson. He has a low BE atm too.

m0nty Says: 4:05 pm, August 10th, 2007

Latest news: Troy Simmonds is OUT, replaced by Cameron Howat. Leo Barry is also in doubt, as is Josh Fraser.

Chris Says: 4:13 pm, August 10th, 2007

Ottens was named in the geelon reserves in todays Geelong Advertiser…. so he surely is’nt gonna play !!! just hope chappy plays !!!!

Carrots Says: 5:29 pm, August 10th, 2007

Brad Johnson still named, Chapman named as an Emgergency and for me, Aaron Edwards dropped.

Carrots Says: 5:46 pm, August 10th, 2007

I think I’m going to leave BJ in, but trade Chapman and Aaron Edwards for Robert Murphy and ROK. So many DT dramas.

Carrots Says: 5:47 pm, August 10th, 2007

Sratch that, instead of ROK, Steve Johnson.

Timba Says: 6:14 pm, August 10th, 2007

Quick bit of help needed… im playing the best team in my league this week, and have BJ and Chappy probably missing. and no1 to cover - altho the guy im playing also has BJ with no emerg.

I have 1 trade left, and am tempted to use it to upgrade Priddis before his price sinks any lower… I can afford any midfielder up to $305,900… so that includes the likes of West and Black… But im just cautious about their fitness and form respectively…

Any suggestions of who i should trade for?

Btw, i already have Bartel, K Cornes, DalSanto, Malceski and Goodwin. Cheers

Ed Says: 6:37 pm, August 10th, 2007

Are you in the Qualifying final or the Elimination final? If you’re in the Qualifying final I probably wouldn’t use your last trade, if you’re in the Elimination final then I would use it!

Also if you are going to trade because you’re in the elimination final, you should trade BJ or Chapman as Priddis will play and score you points.

Brayden Says: 7:05 pm, August 10th, 2007

Corey Jones is alright, got him covered in the back line but Brad Johnson better bloody play to bencher’s can cover him.

Carrots Says: 10:19 am, August 13th, 2007

Thanks for all your help dudes, I got the best possible outcome that I could have, both Steve Johnson and Robert Murphy had a really good week. I still ended up with one zero in the forward line from Jack Riewolt but Pavlich, JBrown, Selwood, Adcock and also Bartel as Captain more than made up for that. I won my Elimination round easily.

RK Says: 10:52 am, August 13th, 2007

Got lucky with Luke Jericho coming into the Adelaide team, so I had both my forward emergencies (other one is Westhoff) playing in place of BJ and Chappy and avoided total disaster.

Wish Judd had missed though, as my midfield emergency Boak outscored him!

sam Says: 7:22 pm, August 13th, 2007

I had joel selwood on my bench this week because i thought dane swan might have a big one against tigers…that totally backfired!
Who i should play this week selwood or swan. Pies have got dees so that might help him but selwood is killing them at the moment i think i will go for him, any thoughts?
And is brad johnson coming back this week?
Cheers

Mammes Says: 9:34 pm, August 13th, 2007

surely you have worse midfielders than swan and selwood…

Ed Says: 10:43 pm, August 13th, 2007

Sam - I’d think BJ will return this week (leaving him out last round was a precautionary step). Swan, I don’t know if he’s been slightly injured or missing Collingwood’s drive through the midfield, but last week wasn’t a good game for him. I’d wait and see who has been selected for the Collingwood game first before making that choice.

sam Says: 10:07 am, August 14th, 2007

My other midfielders are balck, bartel, mitchell, carazzo and kerr so i think im going to keep all them in the side.

sam Says: 10:47 am, August 14th, 2007

If johnson doesn’t play should i get reiwolt or brown? I’ve got 1 trade left and I’m in the semi final playing basically the best team in my league

deaz Says: 6:12 pm, August 15th, 2007

riewoldt dominates the dome and is due for a pearler after this week so will be looking to improve. brown is playing the hawks who don’t really have anyone who could shut him down. for this round theyre probably as good as each other but looking at the run home (if you progress past this final) riewoldt is a better option

deaz Says: 6:19 pm, August 15th, 2007

that said, i’m assuming if you can afford riewoldt you could afford gary ablett, chad cornes and matt pavlich or you already have them. if not, any of those three are a better option than brown or riewoldt
