Coming soon: Dream Team state of origin…

by dreamteamhero.com.au | June 7th, 2007 | Comments : [21] | Categories: AFL Dream Team.

As mentioned earlier today, this weekend will also be a trial, of sorts, for State of Origin Dream Team.

Here’s the format: there’s four state squads - Victoria, Allies, South Australia and West Australia. Each team has four members - one from each position in Dream Team. The highest possible scorer for each team is placed in the positions, making it a ’shoot-out’ of the best scorers in the game, competing for their respective states.

To make it more intriguing, each team’s highest scorer will be their captain, and have their score counted double.

It’s not a perfect format, but the depth of some of the states isn’t great. Now, here’s an idea of who could line up for each of the teams:

VIC:
BACK: Carrazzo, Fletcher, Sinclair, McPhee, Gilbee
CENTRE: Swan, Bartel, Judd, Bruce, West, Lewis
RUCK: White, Fraser
FORWARD: Lucas, B.Johnson, G.Ablett, Chapman, O’Keefe, J.Brown

SOUTH AUST:
BACK: C.Cornes, Waters
CENTRE: K.Cornes, Burgoyne brothers, Burns, Thompson, Edwards
RUCK: Lade, Ottens
FORWARD: C.Cornes, Pavlich

ALLIES:
BACK: Bowden, Birchall, McLeod, Koschitzke
CENTRE: Hird, Cross
RUCK: Mooney, McIntosh
FORWARD: Hird, Davey, Richardson, Riewoldt

WESTERN AUST:
BACK: Lockyer
CENTRE: Black, Corey, Kerr, Priddis
RUCK: Cox, Sandilands
FORWARD: Franklin, Lynch

Anyone else we should include in that mix?

Note: this text replaces an introduction to the idea I posted earlier today.

Why not go a whole team of 22 by selecting the top stat getters for each team? I guess that is a fair bit of work. By the way wouldn’t WA have Tarkyn Lockyer as their backline player?

Ed Says: 6:09 am, June 7th, 2007

Sorry, didn’t realise Lockyer wasn’t Western Australian, just knew he came from a WA club…

Tom Says: 6:29 am, June 7th, 2007

Ed - at work now, so don’t know where each elite player is going to fit, state-wise.

Check back later tonight for some suggestions on who’ll make up the states’ teams.

(And yes, 22 players would be ideal but it’s wayyy too much work!)

Actually I think I was right the first time, Lockyer is from Western Australia. I got confused when Spida Everitt named him in his Victorian side on the AFL web site. Sorry for the triple post!

Sounds like interesting reading - good luck picking from Judd, Swan, Bartel and Westy (personally, I’d pick Judd for consistency, plus he has Kerr back to take some of the heat off.)

BTW, Ed, I’ve never seen someone so convincingly have an argument with themselves.

Ed Says: 7:58 am, June 7th, 2007

Haha! They really should put in an edit button on this thing. I’ll blame it on Spida Everitt!

Peter Says: 7:59 am, June 7th, 2007

Great idea tom an interesting thought indeed… did you ask the boss what he thought of it?

dicleo Says: 8:13 am, June 7th, 2007

Dont be silly, Bartel is so much better than Judd. The AFL does everything possible to protect Judd, in my opinion he is starving for it. Just ask my Theia SAV. Bartel is by far the best player in the league and produces much better scores than Judd. Dicleo

Travis Says: 8:39 am, June 7th, 2007

Why not make it the highest averages for each position, and then see what each player gets that round.

PS Judd gets way more attention from taggers than Jimmy B. Did he even have an opponent on the weekend?

Travis Says: 8:47 am, June 7th, 2007

That way you would avoid the huge fluke score ala clint bizzel

dicleo Says: 9:47 am, June 7th, 2007

I would also like to make the point of people copying teams in the dream team league. There are some amatuer coaches who copy the superstars of the league and steal their players and pressure the players to perform badly. Something must be done, it is unfair to those who put hours of their time to produce an unbeatable squad. SHAME on u maggots. Theio

Brendon Says: 10:17 am, June 7th, 2007

dicleo i totally agree with u…. we also have maggots in our league that copy the top 4-5 teams and i must agree with you i have bartel captain every weeek and never has he let me down…

Jordox Says: 2:22 pm, June 7th, 2007

surely if you’re going on this years form, you’d have simon goodwin instead of shaun burgoyne!

Godra Says: 2:26 pm, June 7th, 2007

if they are copying you then they must be chewing up trades, therefore, largely favouring you to make your teams better than theirs.

Frank Says: 1:30 am, June 8th, 2007

For SA: Sam Fisher (STK) and Brian Harris (WB) would be included as backs. Didak (COL) would be on the forward line…

Ed Says: 2:17 am, June 8th, 2007

C. Cornes is currently in the SA team list twice by the way. I don’t know if Didak has had good enough form this year to make the DT SA side. Who else is there though I suppose.

Brad Green in the Allies and Nathan D Brown (MEL) in the SA squad.

Ed Says: 2:18 am, June 8th, 2007

Oh and Birchall (HAW) in the Allies too.

Tom Says: 4:05 am, June 8th, 2007

Cornes is in twice because he’s a forward and a back in Dream Team…

Tom Says: 9:51 pm, June 8th, 2007

Just to recap, this “match” will only register four players from each state - one from each DT position.

It will automatically register the top-scoring players from each state in each position… Didak may get a guernsey if he scores well enough. If not, he doesn’t.

Ed Says: 1:44 pm, June 13th, 2007

Who won?
